தினமும் வந்து வந்தனம் செய்வாள்.
பல செல்வந்தர்கள், பெரியவாளுக்குக் காணிக்கையாக, விலையுயர்ந்த பொருட்களைக் கொண்டுவந்து சமர்ப்பணம் செய்வதைப் பார்த்து, ‘தன்னால் எதுவும் செய்ய முடியவில்லையே’ என்று ஏங்கினாள்.
ஒருநாள் மனமுருகி பெரிய்வாளிடம் சொல்லி விட்டாள்.
பெரியவாள் சொன்னார்கள் :
“அவர்கள் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுக்கிற எந்தப் பொருளையும் நான் தொடுவதுகூட இல்லை; நான் ஆசைப்பட்டுக் கேட்டதும் இல்லை; என் மனசுக்குப் பிடிக்குமான்னும் அவா நினைச்சுப் பார்த்ததில்லே! எனக்குப் பிடிச்ச ஒரு வேலை சொல்றேன், செய்கிறாயா?”
பாட்டி தவிப்போடு காத்து நின்றாள்.
“மாட்டுக் கொட்டிலில் இருந்து பசுஞ்சாணி எடுத்து, வரட்டி தட்டு. காய வைத்துக் கொண்டுவந்து கொடு. மடத்திலே தினமும் ஹோமம் நடக்கிறது. சுத்தமான பசுஞ்சாணி வரட்டி உபயோகப்படுத்தணும். அந்த நல்ல கார்யத்தை நீ செய்யேன்…”
பாட்டியின் கண்களில் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர்!
கோடிகளைப் புறக்கணிக்கும் பெரியவாள், வரட்டிகளைக் கேட்டு வாங்கிக் கொள்கிறார் – ஒரு பாட்டியிடமிருந்து.
ஒரு வரட்டி ஒரு கோடி பெறுமோ?
She was a poor old lady. She did not know Maheshwaran, she only knew MahaPeriyava. She used to come daily and do Namaskarams to Him.
Having observed wealthy devotees come and offer expensive articles to Periyava, she used to grieve that she could not afford to give anything to Him. One fine day, she blurted all this out to Periyava.
Periyava replied:
“I don’t even touch the stuff that they bring and offer Me; I don’t ask for any of these things. They do not think over whether I will like those articles or not (before bringing it to Me). I will tell you do something that I really want; will you do it ?”
The old lady waited anxiously.
“Get some fresh dung from the cow shed. Make varattis out of it. Dry them in the sun and bring them. There are Homams which are done in the SriMatam daily for which only pure Cow Varatti needs to be used. Why don’t you this good service ?”
Tears of joy welled up in the Paati’s eyes. Periyava disregards crores of rupees but prefers Varattis – that too from an old lady !
Is one Varatti worth one crore now?
