“ஹயமேத ஸமர்ச்சிதா” – அஸ்வமேதத்தால் விசேஷமாக வழிபடப்படுபவள்” என்று அம்பாளுக்கு ஒரு பெயர் இருக்கிறது. ஆனதால் அம்பிகையின் பூர்ண அநுக்ரஹத்தைப் பெறுவதற்காகவே அஸ்வமேதம் செய்யவேண்டும். ஆனால் இந்தக் கலிகாலத்தில், ரொம்பவும் நியமங்கள் தேவைப்படும் அஸ்வமேதம் செய்வது அஸாத்யமாயிற்றே, இதற்கு என்ன பண்ணுவது. பரோபகாரங்களில் ஒன்றை பண்ணினால் அதுவே அஸ்வமேதத்துக்கு ஸமானம் என்று சாஸ்த்ரங்களில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. “மற்ற எல்லாவற்றையும்விட உயர்ந்ததான அந்தப் பணி என்னவென்றால் அதுதான் அநாதை ப்ரேத ஸம்ஸ்காரம்.”

பர-உபகாரமாக, செத்துப்போன இன்னொரு ஜீவனுக்கு இதனால் உதவி பண்ணும்போதே, நமக்குப் பாபம் வராமல், கடமையைச் செய்து, நமக்கும் உபகாரம் பண்ணிக்கொள்கிறோம்.
‘இதர மதஸ்தர்கள் ஜெயிலிலும், ஆஸ்பத்திரியிலும், நடுத்தெருவிலும் ஸம்பவிக்கும் அநாதை மரணங்களில் ஒன்றுகூட விட்டுப்போகாமல், தங்கள் தங்கள் மதப்படி ஸம்ஸ்காரம் செய்கிறார்கள்; இப்படிப்பட்ட ஹிந்து ப்ரேதங்கள் மாத்திரம் பெரும்பாலும் ஸர்க்கார் சிப்பந்திகளாலேயே ஒருவிதமான சடங்கும் இல்லாமல் புதைக்கப்படுகின்றன’ என்கிற பாபமும், அவமானமும் நம்மைச் சேராமலிருக்க இப்போதாவது எல்லா ஊர்களிலும் தகுந்த ஏற்பாடு பண்ணியாக வேண்டும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்
Mother Goddess or Ambal is addressed and worshipped as ‘Hayameda Samrchchithaa’ – the One who is worshipped through Ashwameda Yagnam. So, in order to propitiate Her, we have to perform Ashwamedam. But it is virtually an impossible task in this Kaliyuga. One philanthropic act is considered as equivalent to Ashwamedam by our ancient sastras. It is the greatest of all philanthropic acts. That is, the charitable act is the performance of final rites to orphaned beings. While helping a soul which has left its mortal remains we are also helping ourselves by performing our duty and thus saving ourselves from the burden of sin. People belonging to other religions ensure that dead bodies are accorded proper final rites, even if the death occurs in prisons or hospitals. Most of the bodies of dead Hindus are disposed of by government servants without any proper rituals.
