Periyava Golden Quotes-243

Even nowadays, many people perform the prescribed rituals for our ancestors albeit in a condensed manner. But what is missing is the sincerity (Shraddha). The annual ritual for our ancestors is called “Sraadham” because it needs Sradhdhai or Sincerity. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal

  1. The English translation has done huge disservice to Sri Periyavaa’s words. He has said the pitru rituals done with sradhdhai is called Sraadham. And the gentleman who has translated it has printed it as “Sraardhdham” — There is no such word as sraar…dhammmm in Sanskrit. It is called Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham. Sraadham.

  2. Ram Ram Dear Sir,

    The typo is fixed.

However, there is no need for this harsh tone in your message and usage of words like huge disservice, etc. We are all humans and do make mistakes. It is a different story if you tell the right thing and it is not taken in the right spirit and is not corrected.

BTW, we have one of our sathsang volunteer has been translating this for all non Tamizh readers and she is working hard on translating all these chapters. It is very easy to jump on someone for their mistakes. If I use the same tone and tell you how did you assume it is a gentleman when it is not the case will it be fair on my part? There were many articles that have been posted with solid translations by many volunteers. Did you take a minute to appreciate them?

So, please let’s all learn and grow together. Ram Ram

    • || Sivaya Nama: Om || Dear Sri Sai Srinivasan: Thank you so much for fixing the typo! My apologies to the gentle-lady who has been doing this job, and my observe should not in any way discourage her in her divine work. It was only a sign of my frustration at pointing this out so many times starting from Amarabharati to other message boards. I only meant well that the “common people” like myself should get correct info. That’s all.

      • Ram Ram Dear Sir,

Kindly do not apologize, I’m much younger to you in age and need your Aaseevadhams. I now remember your comments on this few years back. Usually I proof check but missed this one. Anything that is not right needs to be taken in the right spirit and rectified. Thank you very much. Ram Ram

  3. Very good and polite response by Shri. Sai Srinivasan.Common people like us go into the core value of Upadesam of Mahaperiavah and not into the words transmitted or translated by some good person. After all the crux of the above upadesam is sradai that was lacking in performing sraadham which is the lesson from the upadesam. Pandits find fault in words and do not bring out the core concept of the upadesam..
The lesson that I got from Mahaperiavah is that SRADAI has to be developed while performing Sraadham (SRAARDHAM )

    • || Sivaya Nama: Om || > Sri Mahalingam. The observations made by Sri Sai Srinivasan and yourself is well taken. I am sorry. My profound apologies. My saashtanga Namaskarams. May the Divine Authority pardon me should I have transgressed in any manner. I only meant well. Well.

But I have pointed out this mistake committed by “common people” repeatedly on many message boards umpteen number of times. I had even mentioned that Sri Mahaaperiyavaa has written about this in so many words in Deivaththin Kural. [I wonder what purpose is served by Sri Mahalingam putting SRAA whatever in caps in brackets towards the end of his write-up. The fact remains there is no such word as SRAA whatever according to Sri Mahaaperiyavaa. And there is going to be no change there whatsoever caps or no caps.]

Be that as it may, one other mistake that Sri Mahaaperiyavaa has pointed out is that while chanting the sankalpa mantra of : Mamo paatha, samastha, dhurita kshyadvaara, Sri Parameswara preethyartham….

we tend to start in apasvaram right at the beginning saying “Mamo paartha….”. Sri Mahaaperiyavaa says in Sri Deivaththin Kural there is no paartha, kodutha, kanda, pesa, etc. It is simply “Mamo paatha…”

We have to be very careful on message boards because those who read, believe it is absolutely authentic and that it flows from the unadulterated thoughts and views of the Chief! When someone reads SRAA…whatever, he/she would believe that that is the “correct” word and the actually correct one is “incorrect”.

      || Sivaya Nama: Om ||

      • Thank you sir for your timely correction. The mistake occurred because as you rightly pointed out , the word Sraardham has come to stay in our daily usage. And I have not had the fortune to read all of Mahaperiyava’s works, so I was not aware of His repeated instructions in this regard. I am just a squirrel trying to build a bridge across the sea and whatever little the result, is solely due to Mahaperiyava’s Grace. So I take it that the correction has been made by Periyava Himself through your respected self. Please be kind enough to point out any such errors in the future.Pranams
