Dr Murali Sambasivan, our blog reader shares his experience

Thank you Sir for sharing this….

I am an ardent devotee of maha periyavaa. I have met him only twice in person but he has helped me in incredible ways. I have been living abroad for many years and I met Maha periyavaa in USA and in Malaysia. This may seem surprising since maha periya vaa has never left India. Let me narrate those instances.

1) I was doing my PhD in University of Alabama, TUscaloosa, USA. I have a bachelor’s and masters degree in Engineering. iI chose to do my PhD in Management Science. I went for my PhD after five years of work experience and marriage. My wife Uma agreed to take care of my mother and sister in Mumbai. my father passed away when I was 15 years old. I went on a full scholarship from the university in USA. Since I had left my family behind, I was working very hard to finish as early as possible and return to India. It was one year into the program and I was doing well. Most of the times I used to sleep in my faculty after studying until early morning. One day at about 4 am in the morning, maha periya vaa appeared in front of me. He did not say a word and touched my head with His ‘dhandam’. It was like an electric shock to me. I woke up and could feel tremendous energy in my body. I struggled for nearly three months to handle the energy level. After about three months things settled down and I could feel that I was able to understand difficult materials with ease. In my research I had to use many difficult mathematical concepts that I have never learnt before. When I started reading those materials, to my surprise, I was able to understand very easily and apply in my research. When I completed my research, the supervisor of my PhD dissertation was so happy that he said my dissertation was one of the best he has come across. He did not know that it was not me who did but it was maha periya vaa who was guiding me.
2) After my PhD, I worked in the industry in India for 5 years. Meanwhile, my sister completed her studies and got married. After her marriage I moved to M’sia with my mother, wife and daughter. I joined a public university in M’sia and now I am working as a senior professor. About 8 years ago in Malaysia, maha periya vaa again appeared in front of me (in my dream). Even though I am brahmin, I was not performing any anushtanams….not even sandhya vandanam. Maha periyava looked at me in front a big gathering and called me by name. He was upset that I was not performing any anushtanams and said I was living like a useless stone. He said that my purpose in life is different and ordered to start performing anushtanams. Around that time, I had donated some money to veda padasala in Delhi. I promised maha periyava I will start performing anushtanams. I started with sandya vandanam. The veda pada sala thanked me for the money and sent me ‘baana lingam’ and some CDs on veda parayanam. The CDs did not work. A sastrigal in Malaysia had a book on rudram, chamakam, purusha suktham…….He gave the book to me and asked me to copy the book. I was able to get a CD that had all the chantings (rudram, chamakam…). Since I had the book and started following. To my surprise I was able to memorise and chant rudram, chamakam……Meanwhile I receivhed two lingams, one from rameswaram and another from Tirupathi. Now I have the habit of chanting rudram, chamakam along with abhishekams to lingams on all holidays. I also have the uhabit of chanting when ever I visit any temple. This has changed my life in a very big way.
3) About five years ago, I had darshan of maha periyava in my dream. In my dream I was running a small hotel. Maha periyava came and ate idlies. After eating, I give Him a small sambavana. With His usual sense of humor, He looked at me said “I have never seen anyone running a hotel where they feed customers and also give money”. Then He looked at said, “do lot of dharma karyam. What ever you do now will back to you magnified 10 times at the time of need”. He also said that He would guide me at appropriate times and told me to follow his advice. To me maha periyava is sarveswaran.
4) About two years ago my wife was diagnosed of very early stage breast cancer. I was distraught and prayed to mahaperiya  to help me. He came in my dream and said that I have to endure difficulties for one month and said things would become alright. A minor operation was performed and my wife is now 100 percent fit and the doctor said there is nothing to worry. This again was purely due to the grace of maha periyava.

From Kalki ….

Superlative bakthi/devotion of Smt Jayam Paati towards Mahaperiyava

Long interview – extraordinary devotion/bakthi….Paati’s bakthi, with an unimaginable support from her husband is almost a never-seen combination. It is heart-filling to hear the definition of “anugraham” means. Periyava says His own words – listen to this. Once you listen, you will understand how blessed we are to think of Him, pray Him, and talk about Him……Also she narrates so many incidents – so naive, so true, so divine….

Thank you Shri Shivaraman for capturing such great devotees…

Thenambakkam Incidents – Continued

‘அ

English translation of Smt and Sri Cooper Sundaram

Thanks to Sri Sureh P for this excellent work….

Shri “Cooper” Sundaram’s experience with Mahaswamigal — Part 1
====================================================

I am a spiritually uneducated man with no knowledge of Vedas, Sanskrit, Vedantas etc. Four generations of my ancestors in my family before me were always saying Periyava’s names and that is how I also developed Bhakthi towards Him. I had met Him in 1948 for the first time in a small village called Arvimangalam in Thanjavur district. I was 6 or 7 years old. We boys were playing outside. A Mena stopped near us. He called us to Him and asked pointing to me,

“Who is this boy having kudumi (tuft of hair in the back of the head).”

I told Him.

“How old are you?”

“Seven”.

“Whose son are you”?

I told Him.

“Do you know Sanskrit? “

“No”.

“Are you wearing a Poonal?”

Told Him, “No”. But I told Him the Abhivadaye!

He said, “I like you. Do two things for Me, learn Sanskrit and do not remove your Kudumi!”.

Sadly, I did not do both! I was very disappointed with myself and apologized to Him many many years later.

There was a Municipal Chairman in Vellore in 1969. He was against Brahmins. His Mother forcefully brought him to Periyava as he had no children. He did namaskarams to Him.

He told him, “Your Thatha had built a Pillayar Temple, have you seen it?”

He said, “No”.

He showed it to him outside!

“Please do Poojas to the Pillayar”, said He.

“Your Thatha did lot of good deeds and Dharma, a very good man, How is your Father?”

And He poured forth lots of other information about his family, upon hearing which he was shocked at His Omniscience. He became very respectful and folded his hands. Did a Namaskaram to Him.

He gave him a fruit as a prasadam and blessed him saying, “Take this fruit, the dharmas and good deeds of your ancestors will protect you and your family!”

He performed a great miracle to my family member and I am witness to it! Imagine how a man like Jayakanthan who was a sworn atheist initially, became His slave saying Krishna, Krishna..

My sister was a brilliant girl. She did her BSc Honors in Chemistry from Annamalai University and was the first ranker in 1962/63. She went on Ford Foundation scholarship to Iowa in the US before marriage. She was a student of Dr Rajamanickkam Devadas who himself a devotee of Periyava. She did her MS in the US, came back to Avinashalingam College to teach. Did her PhD also there and became a Syndicate Member in the college. Got married at a late age of 29/30. Her Husband had two small factories in Madras. She gave up her job after marriage and joined her husband in Madras. They were very happy for 6 months.

And then tragedy struck. Her husband lost both his eyes due to Glaucoma despite medical treatment. Hence he could not take care of his factories. They had two small children. No job. She was broken hearted and was indulging in lot of self pity.

She went to meet Periyava.

With compassion He consoled her for more than 30 minutes. He said, “ I am also mostly blind. But I am managing and carrying on somehow. You should try to take heart from Me and be brave.”

After she took leave from Him she slowly changed her mindset. She drew courage and inspiration from Him. She went back to Avinashilingam College, joined as a lecturer and remoulded her life! She no longer had any self pity. She was transformed by His Grace. Their two children were model kids and very devoted to Him; they studied brilliantly and one did a PhD in Bio Engineerng while the other is a leading financial consultant in Atlanta in the US. Her husband was also no longer in self pity too; he checked himself into Vijay Merchant’s Rehabilitation Center for the Blind. Despite his physical disablity, both of them were always joking, laughing and were leading a good life!! I doubt if they woukd have been more happy had he got back his sght.

This miracle is possible only because of the divine inspiration from Him, the God, the Master, the Sarveshwaran! Our Master tells you what is right and what is wrong, we just need to have rock solid faiith in Him!

Shri Cooper’ Sundaram’s experience with Mahaswamigal — Part 2

=================================================

******

I call Him my Master. He is Sarveshwaran. Let me tell another miracle which I had witnessed.

There was a gentleman who had lost his parents when he was very young. His Mother passed away when he was just 3 or 4 days old. This happened almost 70 to 80 years back. When his father married for the second time, he did not take his son with him. This gentleman was living with his old grandmother in Mayavaram during is childhood days.

He joined the Railways and became a Special Class apprentice. He was posted at Kanchapura near Calcutta. He got married to a nice girl and they lived in Calcutta then with their three children. He became Class 1 officer, Gazetted officer and then retired as a Deputy Director of Inspection.

Due to lack of normal upbringing he became an Atheist. But he will not hurt anyone. He did not wear the sacred thread (poonal) and did not do Sraartham (ceremonies for deceased parents). He used to tell his wife, “you do whatever you want, I will come to the temple with you but do not ask me to pray.”

As time passed he got all the three daughters married off to good grooms. He and his wife then moved to Madras.

The wife said one day, “I will got to Kanchipuram and see Periyava and come”.

“May I also come Chella, I feel like it”, said he.

“Ok, come.”

Both went to Kanchi. She was afraid that he would embarrass her by speaking to Him without knowing the protocol. He started to address Swamigal as “Sir”! And she gave up and felt helpless and remained quiet.

Swamigal asked him, “What are you doing?”

He said, “I am an Engineer and work with lathe machines and tools and responsible for their inspection.”

“What is a machine tool? What is a lathe?”, asked Swamigal with a child like curiosity, like the way a Mother would ask a child! They were discussing his occupation for 1 hour. There was no talk about Spirituality or God.

“Ok, what are your plans now”, asked the Swamigal.

“You please tell me what I should do now”, replied He.

“I have to take Snanam at a tank which is 1 km from here and then I will be back for poojas. You may wait here”.

He came back and did the Chandramouliswara poojas. The couple were watching the Poojas.

His wife asked him, “are you not hungry?”

He said yes and left to partake the prasadam at the Mutt. And came back to the Pooja place.

When the Poojas were completed he lined up to receive the Theertham. When his turn came, Swamigal asked, “what did you do?”

“I was hungry and I had prasadam.”

“Then I cannot give you the Theertham”, said He.

His wife got the Theertham. And then she went to have the Prasadam lunch.

They were getting ready to leave for Madras when he says to his wife, “look Chella, shall we stay for one more day and leave tomorrow?!”

She said yes. He asked the Swamigal too and He replied “Yes.”

Next day after bath, he borrowed a Veshti at the Mutt, got hold of a Sacred Thread too, applied Vibhuti on his forehead and came to see the Poojas! After the Poojas were completed both of them had Prasadam and left for home in Madras. Again no Spiritual words were exchanged between him and Him.

After three days in Madras, he remarks to his wife, “look Chella, shall I do Sandhya Vandanam?!”

She said, “Yes”.

“Shall I read the mantras from the book? Or shall I seek a Vadhyaar’s help? Will he laugh at me Chella?”

And then he wore the Poonal and started to do Sandhya Vandanam!

And then after some days he tells his wife, “Endi Chella, I have never done Srardham for my parents, I feel like doing it. Shall I get started?”

“Ok, do it.”

“I know a little bit of Sanskrit that I had learnt at school, shall I say some prayers”?!

“Ok, do it”, was her standard reply.

A man who was always cynical about Holy People and God, ceased to be a cynic! Just by a mere Darshana Deekshai!

That man was my Athimber, and his wife is my sister Chellakka.

I wish to believe that my faith in my Master is a rock-like one!. My wife and children have rock like faith in Him! My children’s children in the US pray to Him before writing their exams!

This is my Master! Who changes people!. He is the one Who controls everything, every movement! He is my Sarveshwaran!

*******

Shankara. Sarveshwara. My Mother.

Shri ‘Cooper’ Sundaram and his Maami’s interactions with Him — Part 3
===========================================

He is my Sarveshwaran!

Success does not have any meaning without the Master. He is the one who controls Everyone!

Once we went to Mahagaon to have His darshan. We had taken our daughter with us. Swamigal wanted to know if anyone could read Marathi. There was no one at that time who knew to read Marathi. He asked my daughter if she knew. Se said Yes. And He asked her to read one material in Marathi. She had such Bhaghyam!

My wife is as much a spiritually uneducated fool as I am. But she made up for it in Bhakthi towards Him. She almost thinks that she is the Mother of Periyava. So much she cared for Him.

Once after staying at Satara for three days He wanted to climb up the Sajjan Ghat mountains nearby to visit a temple at the top. He was almost 87 years old that time. And there were heavy rains in the mountains. We were extremely worried for Him. He bathed in the rain waters streaming from the
rocks in the mountain. My wife was afraid that He may get cold. There were no medicines. She gave His kaingaryams, Shri Neelakanta Mama, thulasi, pudina (mint leaves), milagu (pepper), pattai and sukku for him to make Kashayam and give it to Him. Neelakantan told her why she was taking all the trouble as He will not drink Kashayam. Then The Sarveshwaran smiled and told Shri Neelakantan, “go and make the Kashayam and bring it for me!” We were so pleased!
The Kashayam container was wrapped in silk cloth and given to Him. Later a local doctor also examined Him and He became alright!

Sundaram Maami speaks now
==================

He asked, “can you get Me some Thoothuvalai leaves? It has the colour of a Brinjal plant flower and is found in thorny plants.”

Immediately I asked the workers at Cooper Factory to go to the nearby Irandeshwar mountain and get the leaves. It is believed that
this mountain was a part of the Sanjeevini mountains and Lord Hanuman had dropped it in Satara when He was flying on the way to Lanka. Hence it had medicinal value plants.

The workers plucked all the leaves from all the thorny plants and cactuses and brought them in a bag! I gave this to Swamigal and told Him, “we do not know how a Thoothuvalai leaf will look like, that is why we brought all the leaves! Please choose what You want from this bag!”

He laughed heartily for some time and remarked,”Look, she has brought all the thorny plants for Me”! Later they made arrangements to get this leaf from Madras.

One day the Satara Matam people told me that He wanted a Ripened Bitter Gourd. As they did not know Marathi they did not know where to shop for it
in Satara and approached me. I was nonplussed as I did not know from where to get it from as no one consumed it! I still went to the market and searched
for it. To my utter shock I saw an old woman selling it! I am having goosebumps as I am telling you! Heart to Heart, I knew that if He has said it is available,
then it MUST be available! Shankara!

Satara is know for big gooseberries (nellikkai). I bought some from the market and felt like taking it to the Satara Mutt for Him. As I approached the steps His Kaingaryams, Shri Balu and Shri Neelakantan told me, “Today is Brindavana Dwadashi. He will eat today and He wants Nellikkai!! Another Coincidence
of Coincidences, I had it with me and handed over to him. They said they will make Nellikkai Chutney and give it to Him in Bhiksha!

Ganesh Chaturthi day was approaching. Swamigal wanted lot of different leaves for the Ganesh pooja and His Kaingaryams gave me the list. Most of the leaves
in the list did not make any sense to me, like Naiuruvi etc.! In my garden I plucked Jaathi Malli (jasmine) flowers, Guava leaves etc and put them in a bag.
Also I requested the factory workers to pluck all the leaves. I took the bag and gave it to Him. He gaving a roaring laughter and asked me to empty the contents
of the bag and told us to separate the leaves!

On Ganesh Chaturthi day one worker boy plucked some Thaazhambu flowers and gave it to me. He knows that I regularly use them to do Poojas at home.
Since Thaazam Poo was not ok for Lord Shiva’s poojas, I assumed that it is not OK for His Son Ganesh too and put it in the back of my car. We went to the Satara Mutt and saw Him waving Peacock’s feathers for Pillaiyaar!

Balu Mama immediately approached me and said,” Maami, can I please have some Thazampoo, He wants it for the poojas!”

Sarveshwara, is it really another Coincidence! Or is it His Play! Like this He blessed me many times providing me an opportunity to give Him what He wanted!

Once we came to know that He was staying at Mahagaon in Karnataka for two or three weeks. And we decided to go there for His darshan. We usually went wherever He Went!

Before They left for Mahagaon from Satara, Balu Mama told me that He had asked “how are Dudh Pedas (Milk Sweets) made in Satara region”?

I immediately wanted to make some for my Sarveshwaran!

My husband tried to talk me out of it saying that He does not eat anything at all, and even on those rare occasions He takes Bhiksha from only those people who had taken Deekshai! But I was adamant that I will make some Pedas!

I did not know how to make them, so I called the local sweet maker home. Before starting I took Snanam, wore nine yard saree. Cleaned the stoves. Put a kolam. Bought 5 litres of Pasu Maatu Milk. Asked the Peda man to sit six feet away. He gave me the instructions how to make the Pedas. Had the sugar powder and cardamom crushed and mixed. After heating the milk for quite a while it became solid. Mixed it with sugar/cardamom and made small balls of Peda. Put the pedas in a box and wrapped the box in a silk cloth for purity. And we were ready to go to Mahagaon!

We did our Namaskarams to Him and handed over the fruits which we had taken. We did not show Him the Pedas yet.

The Lord Shankara asks me, “what did you bring for Me!”

“Peda”, I replied.

“Where, show it to Me”, said He.

“It is here”, I said.

Then His Kaingaryams took the Peda inside. My Husband again told me, “please do not be disappointed if He does not eat it.”

After His poojas and Bhiksha He told Balu Mama, “Sundaram Maami had brought some Peda for me, please bring it!”

He took one Peda and put it inside His mouth behind the left cheek, took another Peda and put it behind His right cheek and enjoyed Himself!

We were stunned to witness the Parameshwaran in Bliss and cried in Joy!

My daughter was confused at this and told my husband, “you have said that He has no hunger and does not eat. Then why did He do it now”?

My husband told her, “only to show His Love for the Bhakthi your Mother has for Him”.

Smt Shrimathy Kadambam narrates two incidents
====================================

I live in Kanchipuram now. In my childhood we used to live in Triplicane. I met Him in my childhood with my father in Kanchipuram. I will narrate these two miracles.

In 1975 when I was studying SSLC my mother had severe stomach ache. We showed her to Dr Lakshmi Kumari who said there was a cancerous tumour in the uterus. We had her admitted in Gosha Hospital and the operation was scheduled. I was the eldest child in our family and had three siblings. The Doctor said that she had only opened and then stitched back the area as the situation was quite grave with the cancer having spread all over the body and said that my mother will pass away before 10.30 in the morning the next day. And asked us to inform all of our relatives and friends.

My father wanted to have darshan of Periyava immediately and left for Kanchipuram/Thenambakkam. He met Him and told Him how the Doctor had no hopes for my mother and that he will struggle to take care of us four young children without his wife. The Sarveshwaran took an apple in His hand and went into Meditation. He put some Kungumam (vermillion powder) on the Apple and gave it to my father and told him, “make sure your wife consumes this at the earliest, before 10.30 am tomorrow”.

We rushed back to Madras. Since the Doctor had removed all my mother’s teeth we boiled the apple, added sugar, mashed the pulp and gave the juice to my mother. The doctor came at 10.30 am to check my mother and was stunned to see the progress made by my mother. We just told the Doctor that Periyavaa gave an apple for her. She remarked, “only He has saved her life, nothing was in my hands!”

Two days later my Mother told us, “on the day of the operation Periava was sitting cross legged on her chest and asked her,

“Whom do you want, Dr Lakshmi Kumari or Dr Indra Ramaswamy or Me? I know that you will not be satisfied with them and will want only Me!” And He was there with my Amma during the entire duration of the operation!

My mother lived for two more years. The prolem recurred in 1977. My father went to Kanchi to meet Him. He said, “you all say that I had given her life, but that is not correct. It is not in not in My Hands. As a Guru I can only postpone the inevitable. It is only due to the Grace of God that your wife lived for two years!”

My mother wanted the Sacred thread ceremony for my brothers to be conducted at the same time my wedding was performed. My father told Him that my mother was anxious that my marriage be performed as soon as possible before she passed away. He told him, “ you first arrange for the Sacred Thread ceremony for your sons immediately, I will take care of the marriage of your daughter!”

There was a lady by name Sumathi in Murugan Sangam. She had lot of Bhakthi towards Periyava. During her daughter’s marriage she saw that someone had gifted Periyava’s picture as a wedding present. Since it was meant for the groom’s family she handed it over to them. Two years had passed and she was returning to Madras from Bangalore after visiting her daughter. Periyava came in Her dreams in the train and told her, “ I wanted to come to your home, but you gave Me to the groom’s family! Why did you do that? Take Me from them into your home!”

She was stunned! She did not know how to approach the Groom’s family. The next day, He appeared in the dreams of the Groom’s family member and told them, “ I was with you during the Chaturmaasya period. Now hand Me over to them!”

When she reached their home, they told her of Periyava’s instructions to them and duly handed over His picture to her!”

Shri Thiruvannamalai Gourishankar — Journalist’s ethics

================================

I definitely was not qualified enough to translate His Tamil into English, not sure if anyone else can do it either. He used to even correct the English captions

prepared by Newspaper Editors. An example of this is, when Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal went to Agastyar Koodam, the newspapers had mentioned that He

was ‘Absconding’. The reporters came to Mahaswamigal seeking clarifications.

They prostrated before Him and were ready with the questions.

Periayavaa asks them, “what is the meaning of the word ‘absconding’?”

The reporters were not aware why He is asking this question.

One of them replied, “to disappear”.

“Is that so?”, said the Sarveshwaran.

“Are there any other meanings?”, asks He.

They replied with couple of other meanings like “leaving without informing”, etc.

“Is that so?”, repeated the Sarveshwaran.

When they did not have any other answers, He asks a boy near Him to give the reporters a dictionary.

The reporters opened it and read aloud these meanings for the word Abscond.

“..having committed a mischeivous act..”

“..illicit and immoral act..”

“..disappearing..”

Periayavaa asks them, “do you think He did anything related to the meanings you had just read out?”

The reporters were stumped and could not reply.

The Compassionate One tells them kindly, “all of you being journalists have a huge responsibility, is it not? You must have surely read about the proper ethics for

a journalist. You should not have used this kind of language”.

The reporters asked Him for forgiveness and told Him they will do anything to atone their mistakes.

Periyavaa said, “you have already published this in your front page. So, if you want to atone for this mistake, please issue a correction on the front page

mentioning you had used the wrong word. This is the correct thing to do, this is what I feel.”

The concerned Newspapers then apologized in the Front Page for having used the wrong word in the subsequent edition.

Shri Thiruvannamalai Gourishankar – The Oldest Language in the world
==========================================

When I went to the Mutt to have His darshan for the first time there were four foreigners there, an Israeli, an Italian, a German and a Britisher. They had come to do their PhD in Philology on the topic of ‘the most ancient languages in the Occidental and the Oriental world’. They were studying Latin, Hebrew and Greek languages in the Occidental part and Sanskrit and Tamil in the Oriental part.

He went inside to do His Anushtanas; they had wanted to a photo of Him but His kaingaryams refused. They were heartbroken that they could not take a picture. All the four of them were standing near a tree since morning. They asked His Sevakas when He will be done with the poojas but get an unconvincing reply.

I told the foriegners that we Indians are used to the way of life at the Mutt, but how come you all have been standing for the past 6 hours? One of them looks at his watch and exclaims, ‘oh my God, has it been 6 hours? He is a Man of Certainty and is Beyond Time!’

Periyavaa came in after 10 minutes and we all went and prostrated to Him. Looking at the man (who had the camera hanging on his neck) who had wanted to take the photos, He gestures with His hands that he can take the pictures now. He posed for three photos and stops him before the fourth and enquires as to why they have come.

They tell him their purpose.

He asks, “So, did you arrive at a conclusion as to which is the most ancient language?”

The Israeli replied, “Hebrew is the most ancient in the Occident; but in the Oriental, people say that both Sanskrit and Tamil are the oldest, we are confused and that is why we are here for Your opinion”.

He said, “There is another language which is the most ancient than all these, it is the Vedic Language. It is the Source of even Sanskrit and Hebrew.”

“There is a verse about Rebirth in Hebrew, can you recite it completely?”, asked Him to the Israeli by giving the man the first two words.

The Israeli recited it for 3 to 4 minutes. Swamigal looked around and asked some boys, have you studied Rig Veda, can you recite this particular verse?”

Those boys recited it for 5 minutes.

He asked me, “can you ask them if they understood what these boys recited now?”

The four men remain quiet.

Swamigal turns to the boys and says smilingly, “you all will definitely not understand what this man had recited in Hebrew!”

He turns to me and says, “tell that Israeli that what he had chanted before is the same as what these boys chanted!”

I told him, “Swamiji says that what is you had chanted is ‘verbatically’ same as the what the boys had chanted”.

Swamigal corrects me, “What? Do not use the word ‘verbatically’, tell him that both the chants are ‘alphabetically’ the SAME!!!”

He said He will prove it and asked if we have a paper and a pen.

“In Vedas it is mentioned that the world has been classified into 32 portions/regions. And in each of the 32 geographic regions, Vedas say how the Veda Aksharas have changed/pronounced in those places!”

He asks each of them which region they come from and then explains to them how a particular Veda Aksharam is changed in their individual places! He asks the boys to recite verse from Rig Veda again and tells the men how each Aksharam in Rig Veda in that verse will sound in their Regions!

The Sarveshwaran tells me, “I will now say this verse with some difficulty as it has been a long time since I had Abhyasam, ask that Israeli if he understands my recital!”

To the boys He says, “I will now say it in a slightly different form based on how each Aksharam will sound in Hebrew. Please do not think it is wrong; there is this injunction in the Vedas that it can be recited this way also.”

And The Sarveshwaran starts to say it, slowly. Wonder of Wonders, the Israeli starts to recite it Together with Him!!!

(Sarveshwaraa, I am unable to type now due to a flood of emotions…)

We were all Stunned!

“I told you earlier, the same verse in Rig Veda is present ditto in Hebrew, but the Aksharas have changed slightly. (like we say Yamuna but in the North it is Jamuna, Va in the south is Ba in West Bengal, Paa in Tamil is Haa in Kannada etc) Therefore, the most ancient language in the world is the Vedic language!”

Swamigal asked the four men to prepare a table and fill it with how the Rig Veda Aksharams sounded in their language. This was completed in 15 minutes.

The Israeli was shocked and exclaimed, “this is something unimaginable!”

He asks him, “what do you think now, do you now agree that everything has sprung from Vedas?”

The look on the Israeli was not convincing.

He says, “what, is he thinking that why, could not have Vedas originated from Hebrew?”

The man says, “yes, it could have been the reverse also, the Vedas could have come from Hebrew”.

Periyavaa replies, “you have only the lock, whereas we have both the key and the lock! It is even mentioned in the Vedas as to which Maharishi from here in India went to your region and spread/taught Vedas in Israel!”

The man seemed to be convinced in the end.

Thiruvannamalai Shri Gowrishankar — Ramana, Seshadri Swamigal and Periyava

======================================================

My brother Chandrasekhar, was like my Lakshmana although I am not a Rama by any means. He was a Corporal in IAF. Due to a wrong injection he was on the verge

of Coma and was admitted to Southern Command Military Hospital and was in a special ward in Pune. I rushed from Calcutta to see him. There was a Dr Narayana Iyer,

a Brigadier who was treating my brother.

He told me, ‘Only one in 10000 recover from this, so it is not our hands. Pray to your God and Acharyas’.

I came to my Mother. ‘Why did you leave him at the hospital alone? asked my mother.

“I wanted to see Periyavaa that is why I came home”.

‘Will you come with me’, I asked her.

“Leave me at Thiruvannamalai, I want to be with Seshadri and Ramana”.

“I had taken a Sankalpam to see Him first and hence will drop you at Thiruvannamalai after seeing Him”, I told her.

We both went to Kanchipuram. Swamigal was not there and was at Orirukkai to attend the 1001st birthday celebrations of Thirmisai Ahzwar. We reached Orirukkai at 6 in the morning my mother decided to sit outside on a stone beneath a tree.

“Amma, you are anyway following the customs of a widow after tonsuring your head in Kashi and wearing white saree, why don’t you come in and have His darshan?”

“No da, I will remain outside thinking of Ramana and Seshadri. You take me to Thiruvannamalai after you are done having Swamigal’s darshan”.

Miffed at her reply I told her, ‘what, do you really think Ramana Bhagawan and Seshadhri Swamigal will bless you if you intentionally do not have the darshan of Swamigal?’

‘See, now stop arguing. You may go and have His darshan, I am not stopping you. I will just be outside’.

Telling her that even a hundred Ramanas and Seshadris will be unable to help her, I came inside the room to meet Swamigal and prostrated to Him.

Filled with grief for my brother’s condition I became emotional and recited this to Him from Thiruvempaava.

‘un kaiyil pillai unakke adaikkalam endru….’

Overcome with emotions I could not complete this paasuram. After I regained composure in a minute or so. He said, ‘please complete reciting the pasuram!’

I completed it, the 19th Paasuram

Meaning:

“The child in your hand is your own refugee”, because of our fear of that adage coming to existence, our Lord, we tell you something, listen ! Let our breast not join the shoulder of somebody who is not Your lover; Let my hand not do any service other than for You; Night or day let my eye not see anything else. If You, my Lord, give us this gift, let the Sun rise wherever, what is our problem ?

“Have you come alone?”

“No with my mother.”

“So, what is the matter?”

Told him about the condition of my brother, somehow wrongly as dialysis.

“Is the kidney affected?”, He asked.

“No.”

He pointed to His head.

“Yes the brain is affected”, I said.

He took some Kungumam in a Thamarai leaf in His hand, closed His eyes in dhyanam for a minute and gave it to me.

“Are you going to Calcutta now?”

“No, I will drop my mother at Thiruvannamalai and then go to Pune before going to Calcutta”.

He said, “Send kungumam to your brother in Pune immediately.”

He spoke to other devotees for another 10 minutes.

After that, He adjusted His kaupeenam, got up, removed His Kaavi vastram, folded it twice and put it on His shoulder, held His Dandam in His left hand and left for outside, much to my utter shock and surprise!

The Kaupeenadhari walked some distance to near where my mother was sitting. She was startled to see Him and fell down at His feet, crying inconsolably!

Periyavaa’s first question to her was, ‘where is your Maatamaha Poorvigam’?

She said Thiruvannamalai.

She was pleaed with this question of His about Bhagawan.

“Have you seen Seshadri Swamigal? Has He come to your home?”, He asked.

“Yes!”

“What will he do?”

“He will ask me to give Him cooked rice. I will tell Him, it is very hot. He will brush me away and say, I am very hungry. And will dip His bare hands into the hot cooked rice and eat. After just two mouthfuls he will spit some, and all of us will rush to eat them!”

“Have you seen Bhagawan?”, He asked.

“Yes, we will sing before Him!”

“You must have sang Akshara Mani Malai?”

“Yes! From 3.30 am to 11 am we tell prayers like Venkateswar Suprabhatanm, Bhaavad Gita , Vallalaars’s Thiruvarutpa and sing songs continuously!”, she replied.

“Where are you going now?”

“I have asked him to take me to Thiruvannamalai.”

And then Periyavaa started to walk.

My mother was ecstatic that Swamigal spoke to her about Bhagavaan and Seshadhri Swamigal.

She exclaimed to me, “did you see Him? You said He is Periyavaa but He came to me in the form of a Kaupeenadhari! His body is so lustrous just like Bhagawaan’s! His Mind also seemed just like Ramana’s! And did you notice that His voice was ditto like the way Seshadri Swamigal used to speak!!”

It dawned on me a couple of days later that for a person who did not want tp have darshan of Periyavva and sought only Ramana and Seshadhri Swamigal, Periyavaa blessed her by coming in the form of Ramana Himself and speaking like Seshadhrii Sewamigal Himself!

Can there be a better Kaarunyam!!!

In a couple of days I sent the kungumam to my brother. It was applied on his forehead and all over the body by my friend. He woke in delirium at approximately 11 pm and started shouting feverishly Periyavaa, Periyavaa. He tried to do something but fell down from the bed crying “oh, I am a sinner, I am unable to prostrate to Him, He is leaving..” etc!

He later told me that Periyavaal came to Him at the hosplital, observed Him minutely two to three times from head to feet. “I was helpless that I could not prostrate to Him”, he said.

“This is the Truth, I saw Him at my bedside in the hospital!!!”

Shri Thiruvannamalai Gourishankar — Periyava and Quantum Theory
=========================================

*****
I once went to a place called Vaasangere in Karnataka to have His darshan. He was camping in the mines area which belonged to Sentoor Maharaja. Swamigal was a sitting on a tarpaulin along with the other devotees. Annathurai Iyengar was also there with a few students from his Veda Patashala. It was around 10.30 in the night.

The Sentoor Maharaja, Maharani and their son were also there. His son was a Reader in the Department of Mathematics at Yale University. He had a PhD degree in Maths. His parents were standing there respectfully before Him but he appeared to be quite casual. Swamigal conversed with the Maharaja and Maharani in Kannada for a while.

After a while He turned towards their son and asked,

“Where do you live? What are you doing?”

“I am a Reader in Maths Dept at Yale University”, he replied.

“What have you studied, you have done your PhD in which branch of Maths”, He asked.

Their son did not answer for a minute, hesitating to reply as he was unsure if Swamigal could make sense of what he had studied. His father goaded him to reply.

“Quantum Theory.”, he said, matter-of-factly.

Swamigal drew a +ve sign on the mud and circled it; He also drew a -ve sign and circled it. Pointing to the two signs Swamigal asked him,

” Did you use the positive or the negative approach in your Quantum Theory PhD thesis study?”

Their son who was a bit indifferent until then, was startled to hear this from Him. He was trembling for words and suddenly became more respectful and replied,

“Positive Approach.”

“Why did you not take the Negative Approach, will you do you it later”, He asked.

“It is difficult to use the Negative Approach”, he said.

Swamigal looked at Annathurai Iyengar and said, “He is saying it is difficult; can you ask the Veda students to recite this particular verse from Rig Veda?”, and prompts them with first two words.

The students recited that particular verse for 5 minutes. After this He turned to their son and said, “you must have obtained your PhD in your 24th or 25th year correct?”

“In my 25th year”, said he.

“Rig Veda, the verse which you heard now, talks both about the Positive and the Negative approaches”, He said.

The son was astonished and requested the students to recite the verse again.

“Are you now thinking that you need not have spent lakhs and lakhs of rupees for your 25 years of education and if only you had studied the Vedas you would have learnt this Truth in just 7 years?!”, replied Lord Parameshwara.

English translation of Shri Bharani Mani’s interview

Thanks to Shri Suresh P for the fine work in translating this…..

Shri Bharani Mani in his own words — Part 1
==================================

***

I met Him for the first time in Valavanoor (near Pondicherry). My
father was no more and I was living with my mother and brother. I was
8 years old in 1946 and He was camping there in the house of Shri VT
Ramaswamy. My mother wanted me and my younger brother to take Thumba
Poo (Thumba flower) daily to Swamigal. We took them in the morning to
Him and He enquired as to who I was, in a state of concentration.
Someone said we were Kannappa’s children.

He said, “tomorrow you both must tonsure your head and come with the
Poo”. I told Him that I need to take permission from my mother to
shave my head. He said, “do not worry, tell your mother that
Periayavaa asked you two to shave your heads and she will will not
mind”.

My mother agreed to His suggestion and we shaved our heads, took bath
and went to see Him with Thumba Poo in our hands. He had just arrived
in His mena after taking Snanam in the nearby Pennaiaaru river. We
were standing near the mena waiting for Him to come out. He did not
come out even after a long time. Then someone told me that He was
already inside the temple doing poojas. I was totally surprised as to
how He got out of the mena and went inside the temple!

We went inside and He beckoned us with His hand to come in. He asked,
“did your mother say anything regarding your head tonsure?” I said,
No, she did not object. He gave us Prasadam. He normally does not give
Prasadam before completing Poojas but that day, for reasons known only
to Him, He gave us the prasadam and proclaimed,

“From this very day all your troubles and difficulties are gone for
good da, go and inform your Mother!.”

From that day true to His words, all our family problems slowly
started to disappear.

On another Pradosham day He was camping in Ellis Chathram in
Villupram. He looked like Lord Parameshwaran all decked with
Rudrakshams! I went there with my sisters’s son Vidyashankar, who was
studying in Class 2. He was very fond of cows and had lots of them at
home.

He said, “Thatha, will you give me a cow?” My sister objected, but He
said, “it is ok, let the boy talk”.

He said “you just want a cow right? No problem, I will give it. But
there is a condition, if you study Class 5 I will give it.”

VS asked, “can you make a promise to give it?!”

He said, “there is no necessity to make promises, once I give a word I
will not go back. And you should also be like that. Agreed?”.

“Agreed!”

Three to four later He came to Valavanoor and camped in my sister’s
house itself. VS reminded Him of the cow.

He asked him, “In which class are you studying?”

He replied 6th.

“Ok, did you study in Class 5?”, He asked.

“6 comes after 5 only no?”

He says, “answer my question, did you study in Class 5 or not?”

“When I was studying in 4th class, I had tuition and got double
promotion to 6th!”

He said, “You did not study Class 5, so how can I give the cow to you?
See, this cow is destined to be near its mother, that is why you did
not study class 5!”

What a Deerghadarshi!

Shri Bharani Mani is his own words — Part 2
=================================

***
My mother lived healthily for 102 years before she passed away recently.

He called my uncle Shri KV Krishnaswamy and told him there is a place
called Krishnapuram near Tirunelveli and there were just 8 to 10
houses; ” your father had got a loan of Rs 150 from a person in one of
the houses and it is yet to be repaid. Are you able to sleep properly
at night? You must not be…”

KVK said, “You are riight, I am unable to; there is some kind of
uneasiness in me although physicallly I seem to be ok”.

“Yes you will not be able to sleep properly; do one thing, go and
return the loan to them. And then you will be able to sleep
peacefully.”

“Do I need to pay the entire amount in a month?”

“No, you may repay in two months if you have a cash crunch now. You
may leave tomorrow. That person will first refuse to take them money
but will oblige later.”

KVK went there. That resident told him “my father has maintained a
diary and your father’s name is not there.”

“Please check again, Periyavaa has said it is true.”

He checked again, and KVK’s father’s name was there and that he was
owing Rs 150. He returned the money and also gave them Prasadam given
by Swamigal.

Periyavaa told him, “one must always take care to pay off ancestor’s
loans and this cannot stop. This is very important besides doing
tharpanams for them.”

He said, “and now I can sleep peacefully!”

In 1952, we came to Nungambakkam and I got admission in Ramakrishna
High school. When I went to the schoiol there for the first time, the
principal Anna asked me, “do you know how to do Abhivathaye”. I said
yes and immediately got admission!

When I passed out of SSLC the Principal gave me an autograph signed
“Bahut suno, bolo come” in Hindi ie Listen more and Speak less. I felt
this might be of use later in life and hence I preserved it.

Swamigal was in Thenambakkam; that time Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal
had gone to North India for a meeting with other spiritual leaders. I
reached Thenambakkam at 9 amwith my friend Srinivasaraghavan, who was
to see Him for the first time. He was observing kaasta mounam for 9
days. Lot of devotees came by bus at 6 am itself and were waiting for
His darshan. Another of my friend Balasundaram, my colleague was also
there. He said, Swamigal is on silence, let us go to Kamakshi Amman
temple and come back.

I was upset at this suggestion. I told him that I came here only to
have His darshan. For me Kamakshi, Meenakshi is only here.

The touring party had also left. We were the only three friends and
couple of others more there.

He got up and gave us darshan. He gestured with His hand and asked us
to come in. He looked at me and said breaking His Kaasta Mounam,

“ What did you say just now?’

I started to shake thinking I had said something wrong.

And he also said, “ we have become successful there”.

I did not understand His second statemnt. He clarified. “ Jayendrar
has gone to N India for the first time and He has successfully
interacted with the other spirtitual Gurus there and it is like a
victory for Him!”

“what did you just say now”, He repeated.

I said that my friends wanted to go to Kamakshi Amman temple as You
were observing Kaasta Mounam, but insistted that You are Kamakshi and
Meenakshi for me and that I am not going with them to the temple.

He said, “I admire your steadfastness and sincere belief, that is way
one should be!”

I was extremely relieved and happy!

He continued, “You have this intense rock like Bhakthi and you did not
do any mistake”.

“Do you remember your headmaster Anna in your school?”

“Yes.”

“He had given you an autograph? What did he write there?”

I had forgotten about the autograph as it was many years back in my
SSLC days! I was employed now.

“I remember just this, Bahut Suno”, I said.

Next phrase was “bolo come”, correct?”, He said!.

Another miracle, as I had never spoken about it to Him!

“Do you know its meaning? Listen patiently to everything people say.
Even if they scold you. But always speak sparingly and concisely.”

He looked at Srinivasaraghavan and asked me who is he. I told Him.

Turning to Srinivasaraghavan He said, “Your father is Aaravadhacharya,
correct? Some say it as Aaraavamudhacharya wrongly. You are a singer
and you will be aware of this song where ‘Aara Amudhanai paadi pera’
comes”.

We were shocked as I have taken Srini to meet Him for the first time!

“Your grandfather was very devoted to the Matam. But not your father,
do you know that,” He said. He did not know. “But your father is an
expert in Sanskrit. He has writen a book are you aware? You do not
seem to know. Normally I read a book only once, but I have read your
father’s book Vishayathryasaarasaaram three times! You also make it a
point to read it.”

Then He asked me, “ how far is your house from his?”

“Approximately half a mile.”

“Why are you not sure? Is it 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 furlongs? This is
what I told before, you should speak less but with clarity and
conciseness! This is why your headmaster had wrote those gems in the
sutograph, do you understand now?!”

“Go to his home and learn Sanskrit frpom his father. Sanskrit teachers
normally will start with Shabdha manjari but his father will teach in
a different manner using Ramodhandham. It will teach an opponents’
strength first, ie we need to know Ravana’s strengths first before
arming ourselves. This is the way to teach.”

I learnt for a few months only as Srini’s father was not in good
health and I told Him. He said, “it is ok and enough. It will help you
in the future.”

Shri Bharani Mani in his own words — final part # 3
======================================

***

There was an old person called Dattaji who resided in Nungambakkam. He
had retired from RBI. Periayavaa used to camp in Nungambakkam for two
weeks.

Veda Dharma Shasthra Paripalana Sabha used to conduct sadas in Vedas.
I was the secretary. Dattaji used to collect Re 1 from every house for
Mahaswamigal’s intention of sustaining the vedas, providing help to
poor families for conducting marriages, upanayanams etc.

My friend Vaidyanathan and myself learnt Yajur Vedas after office in
the evening. Swamigal asked me and Vaidyanathan,

‘will you both do me a favour?”

Please tell me Swamigal, I said.

“Dattaji is suffering alone at this old age going house to house and
collecting money. Can you assist him to collect funds for Vedas? Go to
every house and collect atleast 50 paise or Re 1. Ask them to
contribute money for the sake of Vedas. We can easily collect enough
money from just one wealthy person. But that is not the point. The
merits (punyam) of contributing to and sustaining Vedas should reach
maxmum number of people”, He said.

“Yes we will do it Swamigal.”

“But there is a problem attached to this task da’s”, He said. (da’s–
colloquial way of addressing youngsters in Tamil)

“People will scold you, threaten to beat you etc, but you both should
not open your mouths come what may.”

“Agreed Periayavaa, we will follow what You say.”

When Dattaji used to go for collection some people will tell him , not
today, please come tomorrow. He will say, ok, will come to you
tomorrow. But we used to feel for the 80 year old Dattaji who used to
get such responses, and despite this he did not give up, respecting
the word of Swamigal.

Telling Dataji to take it easy we started our rounds for collection for Vedas.

We reached the houes of an Ayurvedic Doctor who was a devotee of
Swamigal. We requested him to contribute for Veda Sammelan. He got
very agry and shouted at us very badly. “How many of you people are
doing such scam related work?”, he yelled.

We pleaded with him a lot, “ Please do not say such things. If you
will not give today, we will go back and come tomorrow”

He said, “get away, if you come again I will beat you up”.

“Even if you beat us, we will not leave without your contribution”.

While we were speaking thus, we saw Periayavva entering that street by
pushing a vehicle.

Realizing that Periyavaa was coming, The Doctor rushed inside and came
back with Kumbham/Rice and Rs 100 as contribution!

From the street He gauged the situation we were in and said, “Take the
money and gve the Dr a receipt” and moved on.

We did accordingly and then the Dr called me and my friend inside his home.

“I did not realize that Periyavaa had asked you two to collect the
money. Please do not tell Him what happened here”!

We said, “ok, we will not tell Him, do not worry”.

Swamigal called us at 5 in the evening and asked us, “Did the Dr beat you?”

“No.”

“Did he scold you?”

“No.”

“Did he say he will not contribute?”

“Yes there was a delay, but by the trme you came to the street, he
gave Rs 100; we got a good collection today of Rs 500.”

“You both have gone to lots of houses today, so go home and take
rest,” He told us.

He again told us, “I have said you should not tell lies.”

“No we are not lying.”

“You say, he did not scold you? But he would have shouted at you and
even threatened to beat you. What, am I not correct?!”

“What is Periyavaa saying? You had asked us not to open our mouths if
anyone does anything to us. That is why we did not tell you.”

“Do not worry about this. If someone gives you Rs 100 and you refuse
to take it, to whom does the money belog? To the giver correct? In the
same way if we do not take the scolding of others, that will not
affect you and will remain only with the person who is scolding! So
just ignore the bad behaviour of others! Do you understand?”

“Shankara..we are very happy”, we said.

The Veda Sammelan ran for 2 and a half days. He was there on the day
of the Sammelan and left for Sulurpet suddenly. He asked Jayendra
Saraswati Swamigal to do the poojas and then asked us to meet Him at
Sulurpet with prasadam and the theertham for poojas at Sulurpet.

Leaving , He said, ‘Conduct the Sammelan well. Do not invite any VIP’s
for the function. Only the Veda Paraayanams are important,
understood?”

Determined as we were not to call any VIPs, but for things out of our
control, other people there decided to call a Chromepet Swami on the
last day of the Sammelan!

The function was concluded and we left for Sulurpet in a car taking
the theertam for the Abhisheakm to meet Him.

We found Him in a state of displeaure there. He did not speak to us
for 20 mins. After that He asked,

“who was the VIP?”

I said it was not in my hands and some people forcibly invited the
Chromepet Swami.

He said, “it is ok”. And partook the prasadam.

“Nobodfy listens to ME despite My saying that the VIP should not have
been invited.”

We did not understand why He said like that.

We came back and n two days time we saw an article in the newspaper
that the Chromepet Swami was arrested in some case.

When we met Him the next time, He said, “ this is why I had said not
to invite any VIPs”!

Experience of Shri S.Rajah Iyer, one of our blog readers, with Mahaperiyava

I was always taking Hisblessings before I join any position. It was 1979..I am an MBA and was doing well as a GM of a Mahalingam’s co and because of my integrit, honesty and hardwork I was very popular amidst Textile Cos in Coimbatore.Thee was one P.K.Doraisamy,a very Honest IAS who wanted to turn the sick NTC Mills into a money spinner. Thanks to PKD I was selcted as Gm of Rengavilas Mills with 1000 workers.I didnt accept the position as I wanted to take His blessings.

It was Dec19179..Mahaperiyavaa was camping in Ugar, near Pune.I had booked by train from Bangalore to Ugar on a particular date. The train leaves at 9PM from Blr via Belgaum.I took a State Transport Bus from Chennai at 8AM so that I will go to Blr by bus andcatch this train. My bus met with an accident near Vellore.

Time was running out and we were in Vellore till 7 PM.

The arranged another Bus and when we reached Blr it was 3 AM.I missed the train..

I took another train and reached Ugar next day morning at 6 AM.I was surprised by the reception at the station of Ugar Sugar Fac officers..”Saab..Swamiji Dheknekeliye Madras se..”They gave all the help and I went and prostrated befoe Maha periyava. It was a bit cold and He was sitting under a nice Pillayar. Many visitors were there, particularly one Krishnaswamy of Asian bank.

Whn I prostrated(He knows me only as Son of Rajah Iyer)He enquired ‘why yo have come?”

I said “I have got this Job as GM in Rengavilas Mills.I want to join after seking Periyavaa’s Blessings..”

He was evr smiling as susual. He asked Krishnaswamy”Enna ithu nall velaiya?Cheralama?”

He said”At this young ageif he joins as GM he might even become an MD sooner..It is good..He can..”

Mahaperiyavaa was a bit silent.”Evvaluvau ambala?”

Mahapeiyavaa  “Ithunoondu pasangalai 12 to 13 vaysile pidichchu, kudumiyai vachchukka cholli..Rupai 100 kooda kodukkamudiyama,Vedam Kaththukkonna Eppadi Kaththupaanga..”

I imm understood His agony..I prostrated and said “Periyavaa ennai evvaluvu Kodukka cholelo Nan Kodukkare..”

Smiling He said..”Nee Onnum Pannavendaam.Unga appa Neraiya Panniirukkar.Krishnaswamy ivar appa illainna namba Madam peyaraiye kedukkaparthargal..Iva appa ennai athigam Vanthu Paththathu illai.Aaanal avr Kunnakudi adigalar Madaththai paththi Assembly thappa pesina odene,Rajah Iyer ezhunthirunthu avar pesiyathi ‘Thappunnu’proove panni, apology vankachonnar..Athunale..Nee Onnum panna vendam..Velele Poi Cheru..”He blessed me..

That picture is the centre piece in my Pooja room..

I have never looked back.

Both my daughters are married and well sttled.

Both of them got scholarships..For Undergraduate studies..Elder to Princeton Younger to Harvarad(if any one family has got such a gift..it is certainly due to His anugraham only ..what else,as I used to take them to Kanchipuram when they were young..

These episodes will stand the test of time even in 3012..whoever reads them to know Mahaperiyavaa was God HImself..

None in USA wd believe that a joker in Chennai is talking about Princeton and Harvard for UG studies with Full Scholarship..

In my own family none believes it cd happen..

I believ firmly it wd happen, privided I submit eveytime I have a good thing happening to me to dedicate it to His lotus Feet!

Periyava clarifying upanayana for girls

Periyava details this topic (from Deivathin Kural)::

I said that the twice-born must perform sandhyavandana with the well-being of women and other jatis in mind. I also explained why all samskaras are not prescribed for the fourth varna. Now we must consider the question of women, why they do not have such rituals and samskaras.

Even though we perform the punyaha-vacana and namakarana of newborn girls and celebrate their first birthday, we do not conduct their caula and upanayana nor the other samskaras or vows laid down for brahmacarins. Of course, they have the marriage samskara. But in other rites like sacrifices the main part is that of the husband, though she (the wife) has to be by his side. In aupasana alone does a woman have a part in making oblations in the sacred fire…..more

Thanks Hari for this post!
